Fox Star Studios, the distributor of Karan Johar's "Kapoor and Sons," is likely to do good business at the box office, based on positive celeb reviews. The Hindi film starring Alia Bhatt, Sidharth Malhotra and Fawad Khan will be released in theatres on Friday.
The production and distribution house would be hoping to replicate the success of Sonam Kapoor-starrer "Neerja," which earned gross income of Rs 100 crore in India in 24 days. The film's distributor was Fox Star Studios. The movie's three-week worldwide box office collection was Rs 121 crore.
The distributor's other movies did not do well last year; films such as "Bombay Velvet," "Hamari Adhuri Kahani," "Guddu Rangeela" and "Brothers" were either average or flopped at the box office.
"Kapoor and Sons" could turn out to be the production and distribution house's second big success in 2016, given that the Shakun Batra directorial has got good reviews by celebs such as Anushka Sharma, Sushant Singh Rajput, Mahesh Bhatt and Farhan Akhtar.
Also, with no major releases on Friday clashing with the movie, the opening day collection for "Kapoor and Sons" at the box office is likely to be good. But it will have to contend with "Teraa Surroor" released last week. The Himesh Reshammiya-starrer has collected Rs 10.29 crore till Wednesday, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
#TeraaSurroor Fri 1.79 cr, Sat 2.09 cr, Sun 2.58 cr, Mon 1.38 cr, Tue 1.27 cr, Wed 1.18 cr. Total: ₹ 10.29 cr. India biz.

"Kapoor and Sons" will have 1,500 screens, according to Adarsh.
Fox Star Studios is a joint venture between 20th Century Fox and Star India.
In a related development, Eros International Media informed the stock exchanges Monday that the company, along with Pawan Kalyan Creative Works & Northstar Entertainment, will be releasing Telugu action film "Sardaar Gabbar Singh," featuring Pawan Kalyan, across India April 18. It will also have a Hindi dubbed version to reach out to audiences in north India.
The share price of Eros, which has distributed many blockbusters of late, continues to languish at the stock exchanges.
The share closed at Rs 158.15 on Thursday on the BSE, down 39 percent from its Dec. 17, a day before the company released "Bajirao Mastani" starring Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh.
Its earlier film that did well at the box office was Salman Khan-starrer "Bajrangi Bhaijaan."
