A 12-year-old boy, who was running high fever, died on Monday after he was denied admission to the Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The boy was carried by his father on his shoulder from one hospital to another and the government-run hospital took at least 30 minutes to tell him to take the boy to the children's hospital.

Sunil Kumar, father of 12-year-old Ansh, took him to doctors in Fazalgunj, where he lived, on Sunday night. However, since the child's condition was critical Kumar took Ansh to LLR, which is the biggest hospital in the city.

The doctors at the emergency department did not admit the child. Instead, they told Kumar to take the child to the children's hospital, which was 250 metres away. Kumar was not provided a gurney to take the child, so he carried Ansh on his shoulders.

"I begged doctors at the emergency to examine my son and admit him. They took 30 minutes before telling me to take the kid to the children's hospital," he said.

When he reached the paediatric hospital, the child was declared dead on arrival. Kumar carried his dead child back in his arms, the Hindustan Times reported.

My son had high fever... He was studying in class sixth. He was very good at his studies. Doctors at the children's ward told me had I arrived 10 minutes before, my son would have been saved," the father was quoted as saying by ANI.
