Varun Tej's "Kanche" has done great collection at the US box office in the third weekend. The Krish-directed war drama has smashed the 17-day business record of Shahid Kapoor's "Shaandaar".
"Kanche" and "Shaandaar" was released across North America on 25 October. The Varun Tej starrer released in 130 cinema halls, while the Shahid Kapoor starrer graced 136 theatres. Having collected $380,361, the Telugu movie topped the US weekend business charts for Indian films. The Bollywood flick landed in the second place with its collection -- $336,304.
New release "Sher" reduced the screen count of "Kanche" by over 50% in its second week. In its second weekend, Varun Tej's second outing collected $67,897 from 61 screens at the US box office, taking its 10-day collection to $489,701 (Rs 3.21 crore).
But, there was no big release from Bollywood, "Shaandaar" managed to hold over 100 theatres in the second week. The movie collected $70,291 from 107 screens at the US box office, taking its 10-day total to $472,434 (Rs 3.09 crore). However, its per-screen average ($656) was way lower than that of "Kanche" ($1,113).
Though there were no big-ticket releases either from Tollywood or Bollywood in their third week, the screen count of "Kanche" and "Shaandaar" reached the same number. In its third weekend, "Kanche" has collected $15,106 from 19 screens at the US box office. "Shaandaar" has grossed $10,309 from 19 screens in the country
"Kanche" and "Shaandaar" have collected $522,325 (Rs 3.47 crore) and $505,142 (Rs 3.35 crore) respectively at the US box office in 17 days. Despite having lesser number of screens, the Telugu movie has fared better than the Bollywood film. It has once again topped the business charts, pushing down the latter to the second place.
