Varun Tej's "Kanche" has received a brilliant response at the US box office and the movie is likely to beat the opening weekend collection record of Ram Charan's "Bruce Lee - the Fighter".
"Kanche" is one of the most hyped Telugu movies of 2015. There was a great demand for it overseas due to the curiosity generated by its promos. There were several distribution houses in the race to bag the theatrical rights of the movie. Absolute Telugu Cinemas acquired the rights for a whopping price of Rs 1.25 crore.
The bosses of Absolute Telugu Cinemas booked over 130 cinema halls in the US alone. They also made massive arrangements for its grand premiere in several centres across the country on Wednesday. The movie opened to fantastic response and grossed $53,057 from the paid preview shows.
Due to some unknown reasons, its business went down by over 15% on Thursday. "Kanche" grossed $46,751 at the US box office on the first day of its release. But the movie showed 100% growth on Friday. The film collected $92,998 at the US box office on the second day.
"Kanche" has collected $192,806 [Rs 1.25 crore] at the US box office in two days. Leading Indian film trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, "Telugu film #Kanche biz witnesses GOOD growth in USA: Wed $ 53,057, Thu $ 46,751, Fri $ 92,998. Total: $ 192,806 [â'¹ 1.25 cr]. @RentrakIndia"
"Kanche" has received positive reviews from the audiences and word of mouth took its business upwards on Saturday. The movie has done massive collection on these two days. The makers are yet to reveal the numbers. As per trends, the film has shown further growth on Sunday.
Trade analysts predict that the movie would collect record breaking numbers at the US box office in the first weekend. It is likely to beat the opening weekend collection record of "Bruce Lee - The Tiger", which collected approximately Rs 3.90 crore from 220 screens in the country.
