"Raghava Lawrences's movie "Kanchana 2" has emerged as the biggest Tamil blockbuster of 2015, entering the ₹100-crore club in box office earnings. The movie recently celebrated 50 successful days at theatres.
Trade analysts have confirmed that the movie's worldwide gross collections stand at ₹108 crore. They are now waiting to see if the movie can cross ₹150 crore, as it continues to draw audiences to theatres, both in Tamil Nadu as well as overseas.
"It's the first blockbuster of this year in Tamil cinema. It has done phenomenal business by collecting ₹108 crore at the ticket window worldwide. It continues to run to packed house in select theatres across Tamil Nadu," trade analyst Trinath told IANS.
"Kamchana 2" is the third film in "Muni" series and was reportedly made with a budget of ₹17 crore.
"Kanchana 2" has been appreciated by critics for its fast-paced narration. Raghava Lawrence has written and directed the film, in addition to playing the lead role. He appears in six different roles in the movie, including that of a young girl. The movie has been appreciated for deftly blending comedy and horror.
The film also features Taapsee Pannu, Kovai Sarala, Jaya Prakash, Pooja Ramachandran, Jangiri Madhumitha, Nithya Menen and Manobala.
Basking in the success of "Kanchana 2", Raghava Lawrence is reportedly set for "Kanchana 3", and the chorographer-turned-film maker has said that the sequel is in scripting stage.
Raghava Lawrence is currently busy with two of his upcoming Tamil films "Oru Ticketla Rendu Cinema" and "Motta Siva Ketta Siva".
