Raghava Lawrence's "Kanchana 2" has hit a half century at the box office. By the end of its second week, the movie managed to cross the ₹50 crore in the state.
"Kanchana 2" has grossed ₹51 crore in 14 days from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka box office. The producer's share is said to be ₹27 crore.
Trade tracker Sreedhar Pillai announced the news on Twitter. He wrote, "#Kanchana2, Mega Blockbuster 2 Weeks Gross TN, Kerala & Karnataka = Rs 51.5 Cr , Producer Share = Rs 27 Cr approx."
"Kanchana 2" had raked in ₹ 40 crore in 10 days and it reportedly added ₹11+ crore in the next four days. This is a remarkable feat for a movie that has been made with a budget of less than ₹20 crore. In fact, the Telugu version of the movie, which released in Andhra Pradesh last week, has been received well.
The horror and comedy elements have gone well with the audience. It is quite impressive to note that "Kanchana 2" was pitted against "Ok Kanmani", and Raghava Lawrence's film has beaten Mani Ratnam's movie.
However, in the overseas circuits, the business of "Kanchana 2" is not up to the mark. It has earned ₹ 13.59 lakh at the US box office. The Tamil film earned ₹43.01 lakh in the UK circuit, but its performance at the Malaysian box office is impressive. It has raked in ₹2.60 crore from this region.
Meanwhile, director Raghava Lawrence is getting a lot of offers from the Bollywood producers to remake "Kanchana 2" in Hindi. It was noted that its earlier instalment was planned for the remake, but it did not happen due to creative differences with some actors who wanted a few changes in the original script.
As Raghava Lawrence was not happy, "Kanchana" remake did not materialise.
