Kanan Gill might just be one of the first major YouTube stars of India. The stand-up comedian has gained mass popularity, especially among the youth, over the last few years thanks to his viral videos and several stand-up acts across the country.

Gill shot to fame via his YouTube series, Pretentious Movie Reviews, where he and fellow stand-up comedian Biswa Kalyan Rath candidly review some of the campy and critically panned Bollywood films, mostly from the 90s.

While the YouTube celebrity culture is big and growing in the west, it is still at a very nascent stage in India with just a select few individuals and groups - like Gill, AIB and The Viral Fever - making a mark for themselves in that space. We caught up with Kanan Gill just before he went up on stage for one of his 'improv' shows and got him to talk a bit about the YouTube celeb culture, his upcoming fiction web series, the next Pretentious Movie Review...and the possibility of him being part of AIB's next roast!
