There have been a lot of speculations regarding the release date of Kamal Haasan's "Vishwaroopam 2". The film was expected to be released in 2013, but it got pushed.
Recently, there were reports claiming that "Vishwaroopam 2" will be released after Kamal's "Uttama Villain" hits the screens. "Uttama Villain" was expected to release for Kamal's birthday on 7 November, but the latest buzz is that the film might hit theatres only in January 2015.
On the other hand, there has been no official announcement on the release date of "Vishwaroopam 2". The spy thriller film has been in the post-production stage for a long time. A source close to the development has told The Times of India that the Kamal starrer will be hitting screens by the end of December 2014.
"Vishwaroopam 2" will surely release by the end of 2014. As of now, only two days of shooting and some CG works are pending. The team is working hard towards completing the film and releasing it shortly," the source told the daily.
The buzz is that the film might release around the Christmas holidays. If it turns out to be true, then it will be a real treat for Kamal fans who have been looking forward for the sequel to hit the screens.
It may be recalled that the first part of the film titled "Vishwaroopam" was stuck in controversy as some Muslim groups had opposed against its release. But the issue was resolved and the film hit the screens last February. It performed exceptionally well and earned more than ₹100 crore at the worldwide box office.
There have been huge expectations on "Vishwaroopam 2" as the first part was a big hit. If the Kamal starrer hits screens in December, then the film might clash with Rajinikanth's "Lingaa", which is also gearing up to release on the actor's birthday on 12 December.
The K. S. Ravikumar directorial is likely to have an open run for around 12 days, after which the film might face strong competition from "Vishwaroopam 2". However, it is not clear whether the makers of the spy thriller will take a risk to release the film within a few days of the release of "Lingaa" as it might affect the business of both the films.
