Actor Kamal Haasan's spy thriller film, "Vishwaroopam" has successfully completed 50 days in theatres across Tamil Nadu state.
"Vishwaroopam" was embroiled in a controversy following protests by a section of Muslim group that delayed its release by two weeks. The film, which was released on 8 February in Tamil Nadu, received great response from moviegoers and has done much better than expected.
Even as Kamal Haasan has shifted his focus to "Vishwaroopam 2," the first part is still doing good business on weekends. The movie has reportedly collected more than ₹200 crores at the box office and remains to be the highest grossing Tamil film of the year. The film won the prestigious national award for the best production design - Boontawee 'Thor' Taweepasas and Lalgudi N. Ilayaraja - as well as the best choreography award for Pandit Birju Maharaj.
Kamal Haasan is currently busy with "Vishwaroopam 2" which will be set in India. The film's original cast including Pooja Kumar, Andrea and Rahul Bose will be retained in the sequel.
Kamal had earlier announced that the sequel would have a higher emotional quotient with the inclusion of a mother-son angle. "This time the emotional quotient would be a lot higher than in the first film. In 'Vishwaroop' we had the ladies in the first half-hour. And then we lost them. It became too much a bang-bang boys' thing... So yes, there will be a mother-son angle to the story," Kamal once said in an interview, according to behindwoods.com.
The versatile actor is said to have completed shooting 40 percentage of the movie earlier. Although the official release date of the film has not yet been announced, it will more likely get released this year. Kamal himself said that he would ensure there is no delay in the release of "Vishwaroopam 2".
Considering the interest that "Vishwaroopam" created, the sequel would definitely have a phenomenal opening.
