Malayalam thriller flick "Drishyam", starring Mohanlal and Meena, has been doing fantastic business at the box office.
"Drishyam", directed by Jeethu Joseph, won accolades from all quarters for the film's content and the way it has been executed. Mohanlal's performance in the film as an uneducated farmer received rave reviews.
"Drishyam", which released in December 2013, was the biggest Malayalam hit in the year. Following the stupendous success of the film, there was a huge demand for the remake rights of the Mohanlal starrer. Renowned producer Suresh Balaji has reportedly purchased the Tamil and Telugu remake rights of "Drishyam."
Speculations have been rife as to who would play Mohanlal's part in the remake. Earlier there were reports that actor Vikram had shown interest in reprising Mohanlal's role in the Tamil version. Some reports suggested that producer Suresh Balaji approached Vikram, who was moved by the film's content. However, there was no official confirmation as to Vikram would be doing the "Drishyam" remake.
Latest buzz doing the rounds is that noted actor Kamal Haasan might act in the Tamil version of "Drishyam." If reports are to be believed, Kamal watched "Drishyam" recently and was completely impressed with the film. Buzz is that the versatile actor might reprise Mohanlal's role in Tamil as well as in the Hindi versions. An official annoucement from the makers is still awaited.
There are also reports suggesting that the Telugu version of the critically-acclaimed film will have Venkatesh in the lead role and former actress Sripriya will be directing it.
"Drishyam" is about a close knit family including Georgekutty (Mohanlal), his wife Rani (Meena) and two daughters Anju (Ansiba) and Anu (Esther) who live in a village in Idukki district, Kerala. An unexpected event affects their life and how they cope up with the crisis forms the crux of the story.
