This year's May Day will be unique for Kamal Haasan and his daughter Shruthi Haasan, as both are set to lock horns with the release of their movies on the same day. Shruthi's Bollywood movie "Gabbar id Back" and Kamal Haasan's Tamil movie "Uttama Villain' will hit theatres on 1 May.
Though both the films are in different genres and different languages, many are waiting to see how their movies perform at the box office.
"Gabbar is Back" is touted to be an action drama flick and has Akshay Kumar in the lead. The movie is the remake of 2002 Tamil movie "Ramanna" directed by AR Murugadoss, which starred Vijayakanth and Simran in the lead.
As the teaser of "Gabbar is Back" suggests, the film is about a man who fights corruption and injustice. It is said to have all the commercial elements in it with a highly-engaging script.
"Utttam Villain" is one of the most-awaited flicks of Kamal Haasan. The movie, which is touted to be a comedy drama has been directed by Ramesh Aravind. Kamal Haasan will be seen in double role, as a superstar and as a folk artist.
The film, co-written by Kamal Haasan and Crazy Mohan, has a star cast of Andrea Jeremiah, Pooja Kumar, Parvathi Nair, Urvashi, Jayaram, Nassar, K Viswanath, Chithra Lakshman, MS Bhaskar and Ashwin.
K Balachander, the legendary film-maker who passed away recently, will be seen as a mentor to Kamal Haasan's superstar character in the movie, just as it was in real life.
Interestingly, both Shruthi and Kamal Haasan have lent their voices for their respective movies. The actress had made news when she completed recording the song within an hour. For "Uttama Villain", Kamal had sung three songs and had penned lyrics for five songs.
