Kajol, who was supposed to make her comeback with Ram Madhvani' film, has reportedly backed out of the project.
Madhvani's untitled film received much publicity as it marked the talented actress' comeback and it was supposed to go on floors in October.
But, following Kajol's exit, husband Ajay Devgn who was supposed to produce the film too opted out of the project. The makers have now approached actress Kareena Kapoor Khan to play the lead role in the film.
Kapoor, who is riding high after the success of her film "Singham Returns", has reportedly liked the story and the challenging character. However, the actress has not yet given her nod to the film as she is currently going through the script.
Speaking about Kajol's withdrawal, a source told Mumbai Mirror: "The modalities could not be worked out. The parting was amicable."
The film is an adaptation of the popular Dutch TV series "Penoza, which revolves around the story of a Mafia mother, Carmen who gets involved in crime world inorder to protect her three children and to trace down their father's killer.
This is not the first time Kajol has rejected offers that would mark her comeback in the industry.
Prior to this, Kajol was offered filmmaker Rensil D'Silva's fiction television show. But as the actress demanded a heavy price for her debut TV show, the deal fell off.
Meanwhile, Kajol, who was last seen in Karan Johar's "My Name Is Khan" and "We Are Family", both released in 2010, is now set to make her comeback in Rohit Shetty's film opposite her friend Shah Rukh Khan.
With Shetty's film, the Bollywood's most romantic couple, Shah Rukh and Kajol will reunite to recreate their "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" magic.
