Abhishek Kapoor's directorial movie "Kai Po Che!" finished its first week on a decent note by collecting approximately ₹29.50 crore at the Indian box office.
The film opened to a dull response but picked up remarkably during the weekend and maintained a steady pace over the weekdays.
"#KaiPoChe collected approx ₹29.50 cr nett in Week 1. Breakup:- Wknd 18.10 cr, Mon 3.25 cr, Tue 2.95 cr, Wed 2.70 cr, Thu 2.50 cr," trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted.
The youth-oriented film raked in good collections in markets like Mumbai Pune, Bangalore and Mysore. But other circuits like Delhi, UP, Rajasthan and east Punjab showed poor response.
The movie, based on Chetan Bhagat's novel "The 3 Mistakes of My Life", had a strong hold at the box office during its first week and is expected to do the same during the second week.
Two new films have released this week, but both opened on a dull note because of which "Kai Po Che!" is expected to rule the collection centres in the coming week. But taking note of the decline in its screen count with the release of new films, the film's collections are likely to fall.
"Update: #KaiPoChe expected to dominate the domestic BO for the second consecutive weekend, as per early trends," Adarsh tweeted.
"Kai Po Che!" is this year's biggest grosser film featuring newcomers till now. The film stars Sushant Singh, Amit Sadh and Raj Kumar Yadav in lead roles.
