Bollywood filmmaker Nikhil Advani is set to direct a new television show, tentatively titled "Prisoners of War," which is the Indian adaptation of Israeli series "Hatufim" on which popular U.S. series "Homeland" was based.
"Prisoners of War" will see Amrita Puri of "Aisha" and "Kai Po Che" fame, as the lead actress and is expected to go on air in November on Star Plus. Set against the backdrop of the Kargil War, the show also has Satyadeep Mishra, Sandhya Mridul and Purab Kohli in key roles, Bollywood Life reported.
"Prisoners of War" is apparently being made on a huge budget and Nikhil had earlier told Press Trust of India: "It's not specifically a remake of Homeland, but the Israeli series Hatufim on which Homeland is based. So yes, I am doing the show for Star (network) and they will do an announcement soon. But I can't reveal other details."
Meanwhile, "Homeland" created by Alex Gansa and Howard Gordon, has completed 60 episodes and its sixth season is all set to premiere in the U.S. soon.
In other news, reports had surfaced a few months ago that Sony Entertainment Television was set to launch a new show "Rani Mahal," which is supposedly the Indian version of HBO's widely popular fantasy series "Game of Thrones." Now, it has been kept on hold as producer Vikas Gupta is unable to dedicate time.
Popular TV actors like Sakshi Tanwar of "Bade Achhe Lagte Hain" fame, "Yeh Hai Mohabbatein" actress Anita Hassanandani, Ankita Lokhande of "Pavitra Rishta" fame, yesteryear Bollywood actress Reena Roy, Yuvraj Thakur and many others had reportedly been roped in to play crucial roles on the show. While Sakshi would reportedly be seen as Daenerys Targaryen, Anita would play the role of Cersei Lannister.
