Karthi's Kadaikutty Singam has become one of the most successful movies at the box office in 2018. The movie, which was released on July 13 in over 300 screens in Tamil Nadu, has been received well by the rural and family audience.
Kadaikutty Singam was released to a good hype and had met with mixed reviews. Although the movie was released during the non-festival and holiday season, Kadaikutty Singam has managed to pull the audience to theatres in big numbers.
The highlight of the success of Kadaikutty Singam is that the movie has managed to do well in B and C centres, while the business has been average in A centres. Distributor Tirupur Subramaniam has claimed that the movie has even attracted people who rarely watch movies in cinema halls.
The movie has grossed over Rs 34 crore till date in Tamil Nadu and it is likely to cross Rs 40-crore mark by the end of its third weekend. With Vijay Sethupathi's Junga and Trisha Krishnan's Mohini releasing this week, the business of Karthi's film is expected to take a hit.
In the overseas centres, the Pandiraj's film has done decent business in a few centres. The film has raked in Rs 69.85 lakh in the US, Rs 19.6 lakh in Australia and Rs 1.53 lakh in New Zealand.
On the other hand, CS Amudhan's Tamizh Padam 2, which was released on July 12, has grossed over Rs 26 crore. Considering its meagre budget, it has already been declared "blockbuster."
Kadaikutty Singam is written and directed by Pandiraj and stars Sathyaraj and Sayyeshaa in the lead roles.
