The controversy surrounding superstar Rajinikanth's "Kochadaiiyaan" seems to be never ending as it has hit the headlines again.
The Surpreme Court of India has on Friday, July 8, issued a notice to the actor's wife Latha Rajinikanth on a plea by Ad Bureau Advertising Pvt Ltd over the selling rights of the historical fiction epic released in 2014.
"SC issues notice to Tamil film star Rajinikanth's wife Latha Rajinikanth on plea by Ad bureau co. over Kochadaiiyaan movie selling rights [sic]," tweets ANI. The apex court has reportedly asked her response in connection with the cheating case.
The authorities at Ad Bureau allege that Latha stood as a guarantor when the production house Media One Global Entertainment collected Rs. 14.9 crore from them to produce "Kochadaiiyaan." She had also agreed to sell the distribution rights of Soundarya Rajinikanth's directorial venture to them. However, Eros International had acquired the theatrical rights of the photo-realistic motion capture film, which was a disaster at the worldwide box office.
The reports suggest that even though the movie's producer paid Rs 8.7 crore, they failed to pay the remaining Rs 6.2 crore. Soon, Ad Bureau had lodged a complaint against the actor's wife at Halasuru Gate police station in Bengaluru in June 2015, following which she had also appealed at the court. But Latha landed in trouble again for submitting fake documents to secure a court order to stop the media from reporting about her alleged cheating case.
Meanwhile, Rajinikanth, who was last seen in KS Ravikumar's "Lingaa" is awaiting the release of the over-hyped action thriller "Kabali," which is scheduled to hit the screens on July 22. The actor also has S. Shankar's "2.0" — the sequel of the actor's superhit science fiction movie "Enthiran."
