Rajinikanth's "Kabali" is set for a grand release in the U.S., U.K., U.A.E, Australia, New Zealand and other key international markets on July 22. Its makers have released its overseas schedule lists.
Bollywood filmmakers have been exploring international markets for over a decade now and they have tasted success. South Indian filmmakers have made an attempt to exploit overseas markets in recent years and some of their films have fared even better than some big ticket Hindi films. "Baahubali" especially has shown the country that the Southern film industry is nothing less than Bollywood.
Superstar Rajinikanth, who boasts a huge fan base in the international markets, is now taking the craze for Southern films to new heights with his latest outing, "Kabali." The makers of the movie have already sold out its theatrical rights to various international distributors, who have shelled out record prices.
CineGallaxy has acquired the U.S. distribution rights of "Kabali" and it has already booked 225 screens for its Tamil version and 219 screens for its Telugu version. The total screen count of both the versions is likely to reach 500 by the time the film hits the marquee on July 22. They have released the list of theatres screening them. Human Base Entertainment and AusTelugu Movie are releasing both the versions of Kabali in 25 screens in Australia. Check the schedule list of Tamil | Telugu. Swamy movies and 3 One Entertainment are releasing both versions in over 30 screens in Ireland. Both the versions will be screened in over 15 cinema halls in New England and 4 screens in New Zealand. "Kabali" has been shot in Malaysia and it will be released in 480 screens in the country. The film will reportedly grace nearly 250 theatres in Indonesia and it is likely to hit over 200 screens in Singapore. The Rajinikanth starrer is also being released in the U.A.E, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Denmark, Holland, Sweden, South Africa, Oman, Kuwait and other Middle East countries. But the distributors are yet to release their schedules.
The Pa. Ranjith-directed gangster movie will be premiered at the Le Grand Rex in Paris, France. "Kabali" is expected to release in over 2,000 screens in the key international markets. The film will also be dubbed in Thai and Chinese and talks are currently under way to release the film in over 5,000 screens in Hong Kong and China, which may happen at later date.
Considering this screen-count, "Kabali" is set to be the biggest Indian release in the international markets. Reports suggest that the hype surrounding it has helped the movie record a decent advance booking in some of the above mentioned countries. The film is expected to shatter all collection records of Indian cinema at the overseas box office.
