The satellite rights of forthcoming Tamil movie "Kabali" have been acquired by leading entertainment channel Jaya TV. The channel has reportedly paid a whopping amount for the rights.
Confirming the news, journalist Kaushik LM tweeted, "#Kabali benchmarks.. - UK / Europe theatrical rights to Ayngaran for a new record - Tamil Satellite rights to Jaya TV for a new record. [sic]."
It is reported that a few other channels were in the race to bag the the satellite rights of "Kabali" but in the end Jaya TV has succeeded in getting them. The buzz is that the deal was signed after a lot of negotiations over the price.
The channel had also procured the satellite rights of producer Kalaippuli S Thanu's recent movie, "Theri," which starred Ilayathalapathy Vijay, Samantha and Amy Jackson in the lead roles. However, the satellite rights of the movie in other languages are yet to be sold.
In the recent years, Jaya TV has bagged the TV rights of Rajinikanth's movies like "Lingaa" and "Kochadaiiyaan."
Meanwhile, the release of the Tamil movie, which was supposed to happen in July, is expected to be delayed by a few weeks. "Kabali" might now be released in August. The film is yet to get a censor certificate, for which the makers will submit the movie to the regional censor board soon.
"Kabali" is a multilingual movie, which is expected to be released in four languages (Tamil, Telugu, Malay and Hindi) in one go. The film, which is produced by Kalaippuli S Thanu and directed by Pa Ranjith, is likely to be released in over 3,500 screens in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Malay.
The two-film old Pa Ranjith has written and directed the movie, which tells the story of an ageing gangster. "Kabali" also stars Radhika Apte, Dhansika, Kishore, Kalaiyarasan and others.
