Making new records and shattering the existing ones aren't shocking or surprising when it comes to Salman Khan and Rajinikanth's films. With their films — "Sultan" and "Kabali" (respectively) — reportedly releasing a week apart from each other, one can expect fireworks at the box-office too.
For now, the South superstar is leading the race with more number of views on the film's teaser. The "Sultan" teaser garnered over 17 million views in a matter of a month, whereas "Kabali" has achieved the same in less than two weeks time.
The current figure stands at 17.1 million hits, with 3.9 lakh likes and above 13,000 dislikes. Meanwhile, "Sultan" has less than half the number of likes "Kabali" has. Salman's dhobi pachchad act has been liked by 1.2 lakh people, disliked by 12,000 and above.
Although the statistics paint a different picture, it's too early to shoot down "Sultan." The film will see Salman take on a role that he has never played before. The sports-drama follows Haryana-based wrestler Sultan Ali Khan and his many battles, both in and out of the ring.
Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, "Sultan" features Anushka Sharma, Amit Sadh and Randeep Hooda in key roles. Set to arrive in theatres on July 6, the film has been shot across Uttar Pradesh, New Delhi and Mumbai.
"Kabali," on the other hand, falls in a completely different category. It is about an ageing gangster living out of Chennai's Mylapore area. A DNA report claims that some of the senior actor's dialogues (from the teaser) have gone viral and are being used as ringtones by fans. The megastar-starrer opens in theatres on July 1 and has been directed by Pa. Ranjith.
