Pa Ranjith, who is an ardent fan of Dr BR Ambedkar-- the principal architect of the Constitution of India, seems all set to bring the ideals of his icon to the silver screen in his upcoming movie Kaala. He has reportedly sketched a character based on Ambedkar and roped in Mammootty for the Rajinikanth-starrer.
Rumours are rife that Mammootty has recently signed up for the Rajinikanth movie for a character called Beemji. It is interesting to note that the aforementioned name is the short form of Baba Saheb and also Pa Ranjith's Twitter name.
If true, it will be Mammootty's reunion with the Tamil superstar after a gap of 26 years. The duo had shared screen space in Mani Ratnam's blockbuster Thalapathi.
Kaala, which hit the floors on May 28, is currently being shot in Mumbai. Rajinikanth, Huma Qureshi and a few others are taking part in the first schedule. Talking about her preparation, she tweeted, "Prep Mode on #Kaala .. Slowly becoming #Zareena #workinghard Blessed . [sic]" The film unit will start its next schedule in Chennai.
Kaala is produced by Rajinikanth's son-in-law Dhanush under the banner of WunderBar Films. Reportedly, he will do a cameo as a younger version of Rajinikanth's character in the movie.
Samuthirakani, Nana Patekar, Anjali Patil, Sakshi Aggarwal, Sayaji Shinde play supporting roles. While Santhosh Narayanan is composing the music, Murali G is handling the camera. A Sreekar Prasad is editing the flick.
