Pa Ranjith, who is currently directing Rajinikanth in upcoming Tamil movie Kaala, is visibly happy after Jignesh Mevani, a Dalit leader and social activist, won in the Gujarat Assembly polls on Monday, December 18.
The Tamil filmmaker took Twitter to congratulate Jignesh Mevani. "Congratulations Comrade @jigneshmevani80 Your victory is a way forward in our struggle against fascism Love and Respect from Tamil Nadu [sic]," he tweeted.
Jignesh Mevani was an independent candidate, who was backed by Congress. He defeated Vijay Chakravarti from the BJP by almost over 20,000 votes.
However, Pa Ranjith's tweet was widely met with negative comments. Many responded to his views with harsh language and trolled him for wishing the Dalit card.
The director is known as a hard critic of the caste system. At many platforms, he has expressed his anger on the prevailing problems faced by the backward communities.
Even in his films, Pa Ranjith has tried to express his views from the point of view of the oppressed class and speaks about caste discrimination.
Busy with Kaala
Pa Ranjith has got a rare opportunity to direct Rajinikanth more than once. He has now joined the list of directors like KS Ravikumar, Shankar, P Vasu and Suresh Krishna, who have worked with the superstar more than once in the last two decades.
After Kabali, Pa Ranjith has collaborated with Rajinikanth in Kaala, which is still in the shooting stages. The movie will hit the screens in May-June 2018.
The upcoming movie projects Rajinikanth as the messiah of Tamils in Mumbai. It is about a man, who stands up against injustice being meted out to his people.
