Zack Snyder is stepping away from the movie project after his 20-year-old daughter Autumn Snyder committed suicide. The junior Snyder ended her life on March 20 and the news was kept private weeks after. While Snyder was "eager" to get back weeks after the tragic death and focus on the project, it appears that the director has opted out from the project.
The Man of Steel director and his wife Deborah told The Hollywood reporter that the two are stepping away from the DC project to focus on their family.
"I've decided to take a step back from the movie to be with my family, be with my kids, who really need me. In my mind, I thought it was a cathartic thing to go back to work, to just bury myself and see if that was the way through it," said an emotional Snyder to THR.
"The demands of this job are pretty intense. It is all-consuming. And in the last two months, I've come to the realisation... I've decided to take a step back from the movie to be with my family, be with my kids, who really need me. They are all having a hard time. I'm having a hard time," he added.
The studio is fully supporting the director's decision, the website reports. "What they are going through is unimaginable, and my heart — our hearts — go out to them," says Warner Bros. Pictures president Toby Emmerich.
But who will take over? The post-production will now be handled by Marvel's The Avengers director Joss Whedon. After being approached by DCEU for taking over Batgirl, Whedon will now be in-charge of completing the Justice League project.
The film is said to be releasing as per schedule as Snyder refused to let the studio push the release date.
The news has sent shock waves among fans. While they are disappointed with the revelation, fans of the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice director have taken to Twitter to show their support through his tough time.
