Warner Bros and DCEU are clearly in a mess. After Zack Snyder opted out of the studio's most anticipated movie, Justice League, it looks like another League movie is in trouble. DCEU's Dark Universe aka Justice League Dark (JLD) is literally in the dark now after Variety reported that the movie no longer has a director.
Yes, JLD is now headless as the movie's chosen director, Doug Liman, walked out of the project. With no one at the helm, DC and Warner Bros might be in big trouble.
But why did Liman abandon the project? Insiders from the studio told Variety that it is due to a clash in schedule between two projects headed by the director. Liman decided to go ahead with a Lionsgate project over the Warner Bros Dark Universe.
Liman was attached with Liongate's Chaos Walking, which recently received a go sign. The film features Spider-Man: Homecoming's Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley.
This sudden change of events has resulted in the studio gasping for air as they have begun the search for a new director again. This is not the first that the project has lost a director. The film was earlier being handled by Guillermo del Toro. He also opted out of the project citing scheduling dates. The film then landed in Liam's lap.
The project is up for grabs again and it looks like WB will want to pin down on the new director as soon as possible. No new directors have been shortlisted as of yet.
Written by Michael Gilio and produced by Scott Rudin, the plot of JLD is still under wraps. However, the Dark Universe will revolve around the dark Justice League team that constitutes of John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna, and Etrigan the Demon.
The film will play a major role shaping a in the new D.C. Cinematic Universe.
