Junior NTR's "Nannaku Prematho" has crossed the $2 million mark at the US box office and it has become the third Telugu film to achieve this feat after "Baahubali" and "Srimanthudu".
Released in 192 screens, "Nannaku Prematho" collected $1,789,186 at the US box office in its first week. The movie smashed the lifetime collection records of many blockbuster Telugu movies, including Pawan Kalyan's "Attarintiki Daredi". The movie became third all time highest grosser Telugu film in the country after "Baahubali" and "Srimanthudu".
After its massive business, trade experts predicted that "Nannaku Prematho" would create a new record by surpassing the mark of $2 million in the second week. But the film failed to live upto their predictions due to its reduced screen count. The movie collected $167,037 from 84 screens in the second week and $36,355 from 19 screens at the US box office in its third weekend.
"Nannaku Prematho" needed $7,422 to cross the mark of $2 million and it collected $6,328 on its third Monday and Tuesday. The film was expected to fetch $1,094 on Wednesday. Andhra Box Office tweeted, "#NannakuPrematho Official Rentrak USA $1,998,906 As of 2/2/16. To Cross $2Mn by 3rd or 4th FEB!."
The makers of "Nannaku Prematho" are yet to issue an official confirmation on the film crossing the mark of $2 million. But the movie is estimated to have collected the much needed amount on its third Wednesday and surpassed the magical mark in 22 days.
"Baahubali: The Beginning" and "Srimanthudu" have collected $6,460,124 and $2,882,809, respectively, at the US box office in their lifetime. They are the first and second all-time grosser Telugu movies in the country. "Nannaku Prematho" landed in the third place, pushing "Attarintiki Daredi" ($1,522,734) down to the fourth place.
