K-pop sensation Jonghyun of SHINee committed suicide on December 18, 2017, at the age of 27. His first anniversary is being remembered by his friends, fans and label to commemorate the beautiful soul who left too soon.
SM Entertainment, SHINee's label shared the memorable moments of Jonghyun's life and released it at midnight on the singer's first anniversary. The one minute video features photos of Jonghyun on and off stage with sombre background music. The video clip ends with a text reading "Jonghyun, we remember you and will love you forever".
Ever since the video clip was released, it has been retweeted for over 75,000 times by fans who have poured in their emotional message along with the clip. Many fans have taken to social media to express their sorrow and love for the untimely death of their idol.
On December 17, a memorial event for Jonghyun was held at the SMTOWN Theatre in the Coex Atrium in Seoul. The event consisted of a half-hour memorial service and an art festival organized by the Shiny Foundation. The art fair showcased clips and writings dedicated to the late singer with the theme "Stories you left us, stories we will fill".

Jonghyun's death is suspected to be due to depression and the pressures of fame. The idol's death sparked a debate on mental health issues in South Korea further to his lengthy, pain filled notes hinting at the depression and mental breakdown Jonghyun suffered.
Jonghyun forayed into the South Korean music industry in 2008 debuting as one of the five members of SHINee, a boy band that became an instant hit in South Korea. Jonghyun made his presence felt with his stage charisma and vocals. He made a mark as a solo singer and worked in collaboration with other established artists.
