Security forces killed two unidentified Hizbul Mujahideen militants on Wednesday in an encounter which is still going on in Jammu & Kashmir's Shopian district.
"Two militants have been killed. The operation is still going on," Shopian Superintendent of Police Altaf Khan told PTI.
On Tuesday evening, the security forces had received "specific intelligence reports about the presence of two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists in Shermaal village (Shopian)," a senior police official said, according to IBNLive.
When a joint team of police and the Army reached closer to the militants' hideouts, the latter resorted to unprovoked firing, triggering an encounter. However, the encounter stopped for the night but resumed early on Wednesday when the two militants were shot dead.
The encounter is still going on in the area as the security forces believe one more militant is hiding. "We believe one more militant is still trapped and the firing is going on," Khan said.
