At least four soldiers of the Indian Army were killed on Monday in an ongoing encounter with militants in Jammu and Kashmir's Handwara district.
The encounter began in Hafruda forest area of Handwara on Sunday night, and is reported to be underway.
In yet another encounter in the Lolab Valley in Sogam block of Kupwara, the Jammu and Kashmir security forces gunned down one militant.
The Special Operations Group (SOG) of state police and troops of 28 Rajasthan Rifles and 18 Rajasthan Rifles are said to be engaged in firing with the militants.

On Sunday, the security forces killed two Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) militants in Tral area in Awantipora town in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district. The encounter that started on Sunday morning lasted till 6 pm.
The dead JeM militants were identified as Burmee and Adil Pathan.

The encounter which lasted till about 6PM today resulted in the elimination of two JeM terrorists identified as Adil Pathan and Burmee.
