Two militants and one civilian were killed in an encounter between extremists and security forces in Jammu & Kashmir's Kulgam district.
Two Army men and one civilian were also injured in the encounter. The deceased civilian has been identified as Arif Tantray.
The encounter began when a team of the Special Operations Group of Kulgam Police, 1-RR of the Army and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched a search operation to hunt down the hiding militants in the village on Sunday night and cordoned off the area, Focus News reports.
However, the operation was called off in the night when the locals started pelting stones at the security forces allegeldy helping the militants to escape. The security forces resorted to firing tear gas shells at the locals in order to stop them from pelting stones.
The encounter had resumed on Monday morning, killing both the militants who were holed up in a house in the village.
Two militants, including Hizbul Mujahideen district commander, Altaf Kachroo are hiding in Redwani Bala village of Kulgam district. The search operation was launched based on a tip-off to police.
