Reliance Jio is a frontrunner in the disrupted telecom industry in India, and it is planning to bring it on in a new area. There have been several rumours about Jio testing high-speed fiber optic broadband in select cities and it looks like the commercial launch isn't too far.
Reliance Jio's GigaFiber broadband is expected to improve the home broadband experience extensively. With at least 100Mbps speeds, users will get optimum, lag-free browsing and downloading experience. If the latest report from Teleanalysis is to be believed, users will witness the official launch of Jio FTTH (Fiber-to-the-Home) internet services as early as June.
Since it is Jio, which has dominated the mobile telecom field by giving away freebies and affordable 4G data access to millions, we can expect a similar move in the broadband turf. The latest report also suggests Jio's Fiber internet will be the most affordable home broadband service in the country.
There have been multiple reports about Jio successfully testing its FTTH internet in select cities since January, where users are able to get up to 100Mbps speeds with 100GB FUP. Those who are testing the service are getting it for free for 3 months, just like Jio 4G LTE last year.
With the June launch, users can expect the gates to be open for free testing if Jio replicates its Welcome Offer for FTTH internet. Even if there are no freebies, Jio has a reputation to give the best service at affordable cost.
Earlier, the pricing of the Jio FTTH internet plans had leaked and it looks affordable. The plans are expected to start at Rs. 500 for 600GB data with a validity of 30 days. As the data requirement grows, there will be plans up to Rs 2,000 per month for 1000GB data at 100Mbps speeds.
In addition to high-speed internet at affordable price, Jio's FTTH GigaFiber will also have a "smart calling feature."
"Jio is looking to put an integrated home network in place. Means, if you got a call on the landline, you can receive it on your mobile and vice versa," the source explained, adding that it will be optional and not set by default to all users.
