Jim Carrey is likely to face a trial over the death of his ex-girlfriend and Irish make-up artist Cathriona White, as the Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Deirdre Hill refused to dismiss the lawsuit filed against him.
The Canadian-American actor, who dated the make-up artist for three years, is being accused of overdosing his former lover with painkillers by her mother Brigid Sweetman. According to the court documents filed by her, she claimed that the 55-year-old entertainer gave drugs to her daughter and it eventually killed her.

Sweetman also stated that Carrey gave her three sexually transmitted diseases and forced her to be tight-lipped about it. She even accused him of "lying to her, dumping her out of concern for saving his own public image, calling her a 'whore' and shaming her, and then using his high-priced Hollywood lawyers and 'fixers' to intimidate and threaten her in an effort to silence her," according to E!Online.
The Canadian-American actor filed a response to the lawsuit stating that there are several improper, irrelevant and false accusations in the court document and pleaded for the dismissal of it last December.
"I will not tolerate this heartless attempt to exploit me or the woman I loved. Cat's troubles were born long before I met her and sadly her tragic end was beyond anyone's control. I really hope that someday soon people will stop trying to profit from this and let her rest in peace," read the statement released by Carrey in response to the lawsuit (via Telegraph).
However, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Deirdre Hill refused to dismiss the lawsuit and she has set the trial date for April 26, 2018. It is likely to last for about 20 days.
Addressing the media representatives after the court hearing, the defence attorney of Carrey, Raymond Boucher said, "Mr Carrey loved Ms White dearly and so obviously it will be a very painful process for him."
