"Jigarthanda" has minted ₹71.91 lakh ($117,746) from 20 screens in its opening weekend at the US box office, according to Bollywood Hungama. It has outperformed the opening weekend collections of the Telugu film "Run Raja Run," which amounts to ₹67.37 lakh ($110,311).
In the U.K., "Jigarthanda" has earned ₹6.07 lakh (£5,907) from two screens during the debut weekend. It grossed ₹12.86 lakh (A$22,656) from five screens, while its collections from Malaysia stand at ₹5.03 lakh (26,422 Malaysian Ringgit) from nine screens.
"Jigarthanda" has received fantastic reviews from critics, Tamil film celebrities and the audience alike. Positive word of mouth is expected to help the film to perform well in the coming days as well. There are no big releases this Friday (8 August), which is expected to work in favour of "Jigarthanda." The gangster flick is likely to continue its successful run until next Friday (15 August) when Suriya's "Anjaan" hits the screens.
"Jigarthanda" is Siddharth's first release of the year. The actor is on a roll with back-to-back successful films, including "Theeya Velai Seiyanum Kumaru," which released last year. On the other hand, the gangster flick is Lakshmi's third release of the year after "Naan Sigappu Manithan" and "Manjpai."
