Rabiya Amin, mother of the late actress Jiah Khan, has filed an appeal seeking a CBI enquiry into the death of her daughter whom she alleged was murdered.
Rabiya filed the petition on 1 October in Bombay High Court after expressing serious doubts over police's lackadaisical investigation into her daughter's death.
"The petitioner has strong reasons to believe the entire probe has been hushed up at the behest of the police, who were pre-decided to carry out the probe in a manner that the truth does not come out. The matter, which could have been investigated as a case of murder, has been converted into a case of suicide," stated Rabiya's appeal to the court.
Taking up Rabiya's case, her lawyer Danish Tiwari told IANS, "Rabiya feels the investigation was not done properly. If you go by the medical opinion and other evidence, it would indicate something is missing as far as suicide is concerned. Jiah Khan's case is apparently a case of murder."
Along with the petition, Jiah's mother submitted independent forensic reports and photos to support her point that the case was not a homicide. In her reference, Rabiya pointed out external injury marks found on Jiah's body and various abnormalities in her room like a disfigured drawer handle, an opened bedroom window and other technicalities, reported The Times of India.
The aggrieved mother alleged that the police had done careless investigation and ignored several significant details including medical reports. She also implied that the case proceedings have been hampered under the manipulations of the influential Aditya Pancholi, the father of Jiah's alleged boyfriend Sooraj.
Jiah was found hanging from the ceiling fan at her residence on 3 June. The high-profile case took a nasty turn when Sooraj was arrested after reports of physical abuse emerged. He was soon granted bail.
