Budding actor Suraj Pancholi, whose bail application was rejected by a local court on Friday, has found support in ex-girlfriend Janvi Turakhia.
Recently, Turakhia, Suraj's girlfriend of five years Janvi, spoke out in defence of the 22-year-old, who has been criticised for abusing late actress Jiah Khan as alleged in her suicide note.
Janvi in an interview to After Hrsdenied reports of Suraj being violent and adamant.
"Whatever I am reading and hearing in the papers and TV, it is like they are talking about another person altogether. Of course my heart goes out to Jiah's family. But I can't believe a word of what they are saying about Suraj!" she said.
"This Suraj who is supposed to have done these awful things to that poor girl is not the Suraj I know. My Suraj is incapable of violence against anyone. He hates any kind of confrontation. Whenever we fought I was the one who was more aggressive. He would quietly leave the room. If he's angry or upset he likes to be on his own to work his way out of the problem."
When asked if her long-term boyfriend had ever been hurtful, she stressed, "No! Never! Do you think I'd have been with him for nearly six years if he ever did anything like that? When I read the news accusing him of physical abuse and what-not, I was too shocked for words. Suraj can never behave like this. If he was that guy, I would have seen that side of him at least once in all those years we were together."
She went on to add that despite their relationship being called off they were still good friends and both of their families were close knit. A friend of Suraj friend claimed that she did not want any unnecessary media attention so she kept quiet until now.
For Suraj, the support is gradually building as industry insiders like Sanjay Lela Bhansali, Suneil Shetty, Mahesh Bhatt and many others have expressed their views on Suraj being made an unnecessary scapegoat.
Support for Suraj came began to pour when reports of fake letters started doing the rounds. According to reports, the six-page note found in Jiah's residence differs from the other five letters found in Suraj's place in terms of handwriting.
More so, as opposed to the claims by Jiah Khan's mother Rabiya, Jiah's autopsy report found no external injuries on her body. Her mother had said Jiah was hit by Suraj which led the young actress to take the extreme step.
Suraj was denied bail on Friday as the opposition demanded that the arrestee's bail might hamper the investigations which are at a vital stage.
