Celebrity dance reality show "Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa" will reportedly make a quick exit, owing to low TRP ratings.
Be it host Drashti Dhami's ouster from the show or the lacklustre performances by the contestants, this season has been near-average.
Usually when a reality show does well, the makers try to increase the number of episodes. But unfortunately that's not the case with the new season of "Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa".
"We will run the normal course of 13-15 episodes, last time was fourteen. Such shows take time to build audience traction. Fans gradually develop loyalty and affection with particular jodis. All that will happen soon and we are sure that the TRP's will rise," Bollywood Life quoted producer Myleeta Aga Williams of BBC Worldwide.
Williams feels that since a handful of shows are being aired during the same time slot, the audience are split.
Discussing host Dhami's elimination, she said: "Agreed there was lot of feedback on it. Each creative call has its consequences, having said that Jhalak is not just about one anchor, there are several factors i.e. dance, chemistry among contestants which contribute to a show's success and we are doing well."
Though the budget of the show has gone up, this season has proved to be quite a dampener, despite its never-before-seen acts. A few weeks earlier, S Sreesanth's elimination was a conversation starter. The cricketer was apparently unhappy with judges' decision and left the sets immediately after elimination.
The fate of the show may now seem dubious but "Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa" has managed to draw the audience's attention with a few spectacular and stunning performances. While contenders Shakti Mohan and Akshat Singh have impressed the judges and audience with their dancing skills, Sophie Choudry and Mouni Roy are not too far behind.
"Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa", judged by Karan Johar, Madhuri Dixit Nene and Remo D'Souza, is an adaption of BBC's "Strictly Come Dancing". It is also a popular platform for Bollywood stars to promote their films.
