A jet Airways passenger plane with 158 on board made an emergency landing at the Mumbai airport early Monday morning after the left engine of the aircraft caught fire. No passengers have been injured in the incident.
According to airport sources, the incident took place around 5.40 am when the aircraft 9W523 arrived at the Mumbai airport from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
When the aircraft was on the taxiway, the follow me up vehicle first noticed the smoke emerging from the left engine and alerted the pilots regarding the fire.
The pilot was informed to hold and shut the engine and the fire was doused immediately. Passengers were then deplaned safely, the airport sources said.
