Jennifer Morrison has announced her decision to leave Once Upon a Time. The actress, who has been playing Emma Swan for the past six seasons, announced this decision via a lengthy Instagram post.

"As I reached the end of my 6 year contract on ONCE UPON A TIME, I was faced with a significant decision," she wrote on Monday. "ABC, Eddy Kitsis, and Adam Horowitz very generously invited me to continue as a series regular. After very careful consideration, I have decided that creatively and personally, it is time for me to move on. Emma Swan is one my favorite characters that I have ever played.

"My 6 years on ONCE UPON A TIME has changed my life in the most beautiful ways. I am absolutely blown away by the passion and commitment of the Oncer fans. I am so honored to have been a central part of such a special show. I will be forever grateful to Adam, Eddy, and ABC for giving me the gift of playing Emma Swan."

It is not immediately known how Morrison's decision will affect her on-screen character. But Morrison revealed that if ABC was to order a Season 7, then she will agree to be a part of one more episode, probably a bid to wrap up Emma's storyline.

The Vampire Diaries actress Nina Dobrev had shocked fans with a similar decision at the end of Season 6 of the vampire drama. The writers of the CW drama decided against killing off Dobrev's character Elena after she announced her decision to quit. Instead, Dobrev's Elena was put in a magic-induced sleep and she was brought back for the series finale.
