Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's "Jazbaa" got off to a rather slow start at the box office. The action thriller, directed by Sanjay Gupta, opened to approximately 35% occupancy on the first day.
"Jazbaa", which opened to mixed critics reviews, earned Rs 4.23 crore on its opening day at the box office. The opening day box office collection of Aishwarya Rai's "Jazbaa" is better than her last release "Guzaarish", which minted approximately Rs 4 crore when released.
But "Jazbaa" was expected to do well as it was promoted heavily before its release.
However, critics are positive that the box office collection will increase on second day (Saturday) and third day (Sunday).
"Jazbaa Fri ₹ 4.23 cr. India biz... Biz gathered momentum towards evening/night shows... Expect an upward trend on Sat," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
The film has performed well at the Mumbai, Delhi, National Capital Region and UP circuits.
Now the opening weekend box office collection result will depend on word of mouth. If the trend in the collection increases then the film will have an opening weekend of Rs 15 crore.
"Jazbaa", which is a remake of South Korean film "Seven Days", is made on a budget of approximately Rs 30 crore. The film will have to put up a good show in its first week run to earn the production cost.
Meanwhile, at the overseas box office "Jazbaa" has embarked on a good note. Aishwarya Rai's film minted Rs 79.32 lakh from the UAE-GCC box office on Thursday.
"#Jazbaa embarks on a STRONG start in UAE and GCC. Collects AED 450,000 [₹ 79.32 lacs] on Thu," Adarsh tweeted.
Directed by Sanjay Gupta, the film features Aishwarya Rai, Irrfan Khan, Shabana Azmi, Jackie Shroff, Siddhanth Kapoor and Priya Banerjee in important roles.
