Jayasurya's horror comedy entertainer "Pretham," helmed by Ranjith Sankar, was released all over India on Aug. 12. The movie has been released in 91 screens in Kerala alone, locking horns with the actor's action entertainer "Inspector Dawood Ibrahim" (IDI), which also had a worldwide release on Friday.
In "Pretham," Jayasurya plays as a mentalist John Don Bosco, who can read the minds of people. What happens after he enters the life of three youngsters Denny Kokken (Aju Varghese), Shibu Majeed (Govind Padmasoorya) and Priyalal (Sharafudheen) form the gist of "Pretham." The movie also stars Dharmajan Bolgatty and Pearle Maaney in significant roles.

Jaysurya's tonsured look in "Pretham" had become the talk of the town after the actor shared a video of his make-over for the horror movie, which is his third outing with director Ranjith after superhit movies "Punyalan Agarbathis" and "Su Su Sudhi Vathmeekam." The movie is being bankrolled by the actor-director duo under the banner Dreams N Beyond.

Hilarious! Beautiful combination of characters and a new age manichitrathazhu. The team rocks. How do they come up with the one liners and filler dialogues with such precision?

Pretham is a highly engaging movie which smartly handles humour and supernatural elements through a clever screenplay and interesting characters and plot twists. Jayasurya is excellent as the Mentalist John Don Bosco and it was really interesting to watch the possibilities of this skill (though exaggerated for the sake of the plot at times). Jayettan truly transforms into the character hitherto unseen in Malayalam cinema. Aju Varghese switches to a slightly more serious role this time compared to his usual comedian avatar and does very well. Govind Padmasoorya is very effective with his cool portrayal of the character. Sharafuddeen is the star of the show with his superb timing and terrific one-liners keeping every scene alove with his killer repartees! Pearle Maaney is also very good. Along with Dharmajan, Vijay Babu, Devan, Harish Peradi and others who have all done well. And welcome to the movies, Sharanya Menon ;)Ranjith Sankar has packaged the movie very well with an engaging screenplay, great humour and interesting characters. Everytime the movie treads into the zone of Manichitrathazhu, there's a spoof of the classic which works very well and reminds us that this is a totally different movie. More than horror, the supernatural element has been revealed effectively through a process which is new to viewers - Mentalism, which keeps everyone guessing. An enjoyable movie watch and definitely one of the better movies this year.

Pretham : An outstanding horror film with comedy and suspense. Jayasurya plays the role of a mentalist. A haunted sea front resort and the efforts of the owners to find the identity of the soul is story of Pretham.
Too many bachelor jokes mixed with a hightech soul communicating thru laptops and mobile phones is what makes this Pretham different. The investigation is happening with techniques of mentalism is fresh in malayalam.
Theater was only 50% Occupied but I am sure that tomorrow onwards we can expect 100% Occupancy for another 10 To 20 Days.... This is going to be biggest hit of Jayasurya ( I hope )
95% Of the movie happen inside a resort and balance 5% Happen in a church and law college...
9 / 10 For the script
10/10 For Direction
9/10 For suspense
9/10 For music

Pretham : i went with a very good expectation due to the director Ranjith shankar he is a really talented guy all his movies till now are worth watchable & touched me personally so much whther it be Punyalan Agarbathis , Varsham or Su Su Sudhi Vathmeekam...
My hopes were flying high till half way through the second half but the climax ended making the movie just an average predictable & a watchable flick 2.5 on 5 but it was a total timepass & an enjoyable one go for it paisa vasool
Jayasurya as mentalist Don Bosco was superb just rocked..makes me remind Lalettans evergreen character Dr Sunny from Manichithratazhu & his shades frm movie Vismayathumbathu...
Still for me the best horror thrillers in Mollywood history are Lalettans Manichithratazhu & his underated movie Devadudhan unbeatable class & truly evergreen ones.
