Priyadarshan is coming up with a new Malayalam film this year with Jayasurya in the lead. The film, which is not yet named is said to be a full length fun film. Priyadarshan's move to cast Jayasurya came as a surprise to many as he is known for casting only leading actors in his films as a hero.
"It would be the dream of any actor to act in a Priyadarshan film, I believe. At least it was for me, I just wanted to act in at least one scene in a film of his. And now, to play the lead in his film is something beyond my imagination. I feel proud and lucky to have bagged this role. I am well aware that Priyan sir hasn't yet done a film with any of the newer crop of actors in the lead. It will be a fun thriller, and will have a host of actors known for their comic timing, like Innocent, Nedumudi Venu, Manianpilla Raju and Harisree Ashokan. It will be something on the lines of 'Thenmavin Kombathu,' and will be scripted by Priyadarshan himself", said Jayasurya to Times of India.
Priyadarshan's last Malayalam film was "Geethanjali" (2013) starring Mohanlal, Nishan, Keerthy Suresh, Swapna Menon, Siddique, Innocent, Nassar, Madhu, Ganesh Kumar, Seema, Harishree Ashokan, Arun Benny, Mahesh and Ambika Mohan in the lead. Actor Suresh Gopi also made a cameo appearance in the film. "Geethanjali" is the unofficial sequel of the super hit Malayalam film "Manichithrathazhu" (1993) and the plot of the film was partially inspired by the detective fiction "Elephants Can Remember" written by Agatha Christie. The film was opened at more than 300 theatres worldwide, but failed to make a mark in the box office.
Meanwhile, Jayasurya is waiting for the release of his upcoming flick "Apothecary," where he plays the role of a patient. His appearance in the film is much discussed as he had reduced more than 10kgs for this role.
The heroine of Priyadarsan's upcoming flick is not yet fixed. The post production work of the film is expected to begin by the month of September.
