A supporter of AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa crucified himself on Monday, a day ahead of Amma's birthday, demanding her return as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
Shihan Hussaini, Jayalalithaa's supporter and karate expert, remained hanging on the cross for six minutes and 7 seconds despite going through excruciating pain. Hussaini's aides hammered 6 inch iron nails into his palms and feet, crucifying him on the cross.
He was lamenting the turn of events that forced Jayalalithaa to resign as Tamil Nadu chief minister and wanted her to be reinstated in power.
Jayalalithaa had to step down from the position of chief minister after she was convicted and jailed in a ₹ Rs 66.65 crore disproportionate assets case by the Karnataka High Court, last year. Although she was granted bail 21 days after her arrest, she has been banned from contesting elections for 10 years.
Under these circumstances, Jayalalithaa's loyalist and former TN Finance Minister O Panneerselvam was made the chief minister of the state.
When Jayalalithaa was convicted and sent to Bangalore's Parappana Agrahara Jail, her supporters and admirers in both Tamil Nadu and Bangalore had created a ruckus in protest. Several had committed suicide, while many died of shock.
