Kollywood actor Rajinikanth visited Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, who has been admitted in Apollo Hospital in Chennai for almost a month now, to enquire about her health around 6:15 pm on Sunday.
The Tamil superstar, who was accompanied by his daughter Aishwarya Dhanush, had also tweeted on September 24 wishing the chief minister a speedy recovery.
Rajinikanth made a quiet entry in the evening. The hospital gates were kept open for his car to enter since the authorities were informed of his visit in advance. The media noticed him only when he was leaving the hospital, the Hindu reported.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Chennai to enquire about Jayalalithaa's health, Minister of State for Highways and Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan said on Saturday.
"The Prime Minister is keen to know about the health condition of Jayalalithaa and get updates on it and will soon visit Chennai," Radhakrishnan told reporters.
Meanwhile, 50 criminal cases have been registered and eight people, including two men who work at a bank in Coimbatore, have been arrested for spreading false rumours about the CM's health and making derogatory remarks against her.
"Users of social media are advised not to spread false, malicious and motivated information regarding the health condition of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Stern action will be taken against the culprits, if any such content is noticed," the police said warning that the culprits could be sent to jail for a maximum period of seven years.
Jayalalithaa was admitted to Apollo hospital on September 22 for fever and dehydration. She's currently on respiratory support and also has an infection in her lungs. Three doctors from Delhi's AIIMS hospital and one specialist from the UK have visited Chennai several times to check on the CM's health.
