BJP president Amit Shah and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley visited Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, who is undergoing medical treatment, at Apollo Hospital on Wednesday, October 12. "Visited Apollo hospital Chennai today. I wish J Jayalalithaa Ji, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu a speedy recovery," Jaitley tweeted after the visit.
The 68-year-old All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) leader was admitted to the hospital on September 22 after she complained of fever and dehydration. Her long stay at the hospital has evoked a plethora of sentiments among the Indian population, especially Tamilians, many of whom are praying and holding pujas for her speedy recovery in the hospital premises.
Politicians across the country have also expressed their concern over her health on social media. However, former Supreme Court justice Markandey Katju, who is infamous for his lack of political correctness, has gone a step further and professed his love for the former actress in a heartfelt Facebook post.
"When I was a young man, and she too was young I thought her extremely attractive and had fallen in love with her, though of course she did not know about it, and it was unrequited love. I still find her attractive (which unfortunately I am not now), and am still in love with her, and wish her speedy recovery," reads an excerpt from the post. He also calls her a sherni [lioness], and her opponents langoors [langur] in the post, before writing a post about his meetings with the CM.
BJP leaders Shah and Jaitley are among the many politicians including Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Governor P Sathasivam, Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi and Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Venkaiah Naidu who have visited Amma at the hospital.
There visit was announced by the BJP state unit president Tamilisai Sounderrajan via Twitter. She said, "Hon'ble BJP National president AmitShah Avl honb Union minister Arun jaitley Avl to call on Hon'ble TN CM in Apollo Hospital around 5pm tomorrow."
Meanwhile, AIADMK leader CR Saraswathi told reporters that Jayalalithaa is getting better and during her recovery Finance Minister O Panneerselvam has taken over her portfolios. "Every day we're praying for Amma; we're happy as God helped us to get us our Amma hale and hearty," Saraswathi said.
