The month of December seems to bring bad luck for Tamil Nadu with the state witnessing yet another loss as Chief Minister Jayalalithaa passed away late on Monday after suffering a cardiac arrest. The 68-year-old had been in the hospital for around 10 weeks.
Jayalalithaa's mentor, AIADMK founder and actor-turned politician MGR, had died on December 24, 1987. Both Jayalalithaa and MGR were ill for months before passing away in the month of December.
Last Governor General of India C Rajagopalachari also passed away in the same month - December 25, 1972. Rationalist leader "Periyar" E V Ramasamy died on December 24, 1972, the Times of India reported. Both the leaders were aged 94 when they passed away.
Tsunami had also wreaked havoc in the state on December 26, 2004. The unprecedented heavy downpour in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Cuddalore, Tiruvallore and Thoothukudi that disrupted normal lives of citizens also happened in December 2015.
