As entire India grieves on the death of veteran Indian politician Jayalalithaa and Tamil Nadu observes mourning of seven days, here comes a little bit of worrying news for Indian cricket fans, in South India in particular. Virat Kohli's side are scheduled to play their 5th and final Test match against England at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, starting December 16.
The match however, is in doubt.
On Tuesday, during a press conference, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Ajay Shirke informed the fate of the Test match is up in airs. India, currently lead the series 2-0 after three Test matches.
"Unfortunate incident took place in Chennai, BCCI is making clear that no decision has taken regarding the Chennai Test," Shirke informed the media in Mumbai. "We're keeping a close watch on the situation and taking inputs from local association about sentiments of people; will act accordingly."
There is no clue yet whether the match will get shifted, but Shirke has confirmed that a Ranji Trophy 2016 match between Jharkhand and Odisha, scheduled to begin tomorrow at the NPR College Ground, Dindigul (approximately 400 kms from Chennai) will be taking place at a different venue.
