Kannada film industry will see the release of two films this week with "Jaya Lalitha" and "Paaru w/o Devadas." Both the films will be released on 26 July.
"Jaya Lalitha" starring Sharan and Aishwarya Devan is directed by P. Kumar of "Vishnuvardhana" and "Charulatha" fame. The release was under lot of speculation as it was hit by lot of controversies. It ran into trouble when a song from the film was given to a channel without the permission of the censor board. Things got settled when the film was finally given a 'U/A' certificate after a long wait.
The film was initially titled, "Smt. Jayalalitha" but its makers had to change it because of its resemblance to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha. It is said to be a remake of Malayalam film, "Mayamohini" (2012) starring Dileep but people behind the Kannada version have claimed that it is completely different from the original except for the character of the lead actor, who will be seen in a woman get-up.
"Mayamohini," directed by Jose Thomas featuring Dileep, Biju Menon, Lakshmi Rai, Baburaj, Mythili and Spadikam George in lead roles was a huge hit. Its story was written by Udayakrishna and Siby K. Thomas.
Comedian turned hero, Sharan will be seen dressed up as a woman in "Jaya Lalitha". He is brimming with confidence after the huge success of "Rambo." Aishwarya, who acted opposite Jayasurya in V.K. Prakash's Malayalam film, "Thank You" plays the female lead role in the film. The film also has Sadhu Kokila and Tabala Nani in pivotal roles. P.Indira has produced the film under Indira Productions banner and Sridhar Sambhram has composed the music, whereas, Karunakar has handled the camera.
The second release of this week is a romantic comedy film "Paaru w/o Devadas" directed by Kiran Govi. The film will star Srinagar Kitty and Soundarya Jayamala, daughter of veteran actress Jayamala in the lead roles.
Though the film's title and the character's names are similar to Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's Bengali novel "Devdas," this Kannada film has no association with it. Unlike the novel, the film will see Paaru and Devadas with a happy ending. Hero will be seen as someone who is interested in western music and the heroine as a Kathak dancer. Both the lead characters will be seen as people with strong identity of their own.
The film also has Neha Patil, Layendra, V. Manohar and Mohan Juneja in the lead roles. The music of the film is done by Arjun Janya and the lyrics are by Jayanth Kaikini and Nagendra Prasad. The film is produced by Krishna Deva Gowda and Mukhtar.
