"Janatha Garage" showed a huge drop in its collection and failed to cross $2 million mark at the U.S. box office in its second weekend. It has also failed to beat the records of "Srimanthudu" and "Nannaku Pramatho."
The Koratala Siva-directed action drama was released in 200 screens in North America on Sept. 1, and collected $1,614,526 at the U.S. box office in its opening week. The movie was expected to continue its dream run in the second week, but its collection was affected by the new releases – "Baar Baar Dekho," "Jo Achyutananda," "Inkokkadu," "Iru Mugan" and "Freaky Ali," which forced it out of many theatres.
"Janatha Garage" was forced to give away 45 percent of the screens that it was holding in its opening week. The movie had a steep drop in its business on its second Friday, and it showed over 90 percent growth on Saturday. Its collection dipped considerably on Sunday. The film made an average collection in the country in its second weekend.
"Janatha Garage" has collected $121,162 at the U.S. box office in its second weekend and its 11-day gross total has reached $1,735,688 (Rs 11.61 crore) in the country. "Srimanthudu" collected $2,656,534 at the U.S. box office in 10 days and it was the highest collection for a film directed by Koratala Siva. Taran Adarsh had tweeted on Aug. 17, 2015: "Telugu film #Srimanthudu has a STRONG Weekend 2 in USA. Collects $ 343,886. Total: $ 2,656,534 [₹ 17.35 cr] @RentrakIndia."
"Nannaku Prematho" collected $133,936 at the U.S. box office in its second weekend, taking its total to $1,923,122, which was the highest amount for a film starring Junior NTR. "Janatha Garage" was expected to surpass $2 million mark at the U.S. box office in its second weekend and shatter the records of "Srimanthudu" and "Nannaku Prematho." But the Junior NTR-starrar failed to achieve the milestone.
