"Janatha Garage" has made a superb collection at the worldwide box office in eight days and become the second all-time highest grossing Telugu film in the opening week after "Baahubali."
Director Koratala Siva's success and the popularity of stars like Junior NTR, Mohanlal, Samantha and Nithya Menen created lot of expectations and hype around "Janatha Garage." Its promos had generated lot of attention for the film. In addition, the makers did massive promotion activities for the movie before its release. All these aspects helped the flick register huge amount of advance booking for its opening day.
"Janatha Garage" was released in Telugu and Malayalam in over 2,000 screens across the globe on Sept 1. The film opened to a superb response everywhere and ran to packed houses in several centres around the world. The film collected Rs. 41 crore at the worldwide box office on the first day. The movie became the second all time biggest opener, beating the records of "Nannaku Prematho" and "Srimanthudu."
However, the Koratala Siva-directed action drama garnered mixed talk from the critics and audience and the word of mouth took a toll on its collection. The movie showed over 60 percent drop on Friday, when compared to its Thursday business. The film failed to show a big jump on Saturday and Sunday. With its good collection, the flick became the second all time highest grossing film in the opening weekend after "Baahubali."
The Junior NTR and Mohanlal-starrer fared well at the ticket counters on Monday due to Ganesh Chaturthi holiday. But its business dropped considerably on Tuesday and it continued to fall on the following week days. The movie shattered the lifetime record of "Nannaku Prematho" in five days and the opening week record of "Srimanthudu" in six days.
"Janatha Garage" is estimated to have collected over Rs. 102 crore gross at the worldwide box office in its eight-day-extended first week. Various distributors shelled out Rs. 67.40 crore on its global theatrical rights and the movie has earned over Rs. 64.35 crore for the distributors. The film has recovered 95 percent of their investments on its rights.
