A Pakistani spy was arrested in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba sector on Friday and two Pakistani SIM cards and a map was found on his person. The map recovered from the spy showed the deployment of Indian security forces, officials said.
A resident of Jammu, Bodhraj, is being questioned by the security forces to find out if he is a part of a Pakistani spy network in the country.
Another spy from Pakistan was arrested in August in Rajasthan, and maps of border areas and related photographs were recovered from him too.
The spy was arrested on the day the Border Security Force (BSF) personnel killed seven Pakistani Rangers and a terrorist to foil an infiltration attempt across the Jammu International Border. The cross-border firing took place on Friday night along the Border in Hiranagar sector in Kathua district of Jammu. Pakistan, however, has denied any casualties in the incident.
BSF said that soon after the Pak snipers injured jawan Gurnam Singh and tried to stop attempts to move Singh to safety, the Indian security force launched an aggressive retaliatory fire, killing seven Pak rangers.
At least four terrorists were spotted trying to infiltrate into the Indian side. Singh suffered injuries and was soon evacuated and although he is being treated, his condition remains critical.
Indo-Pak relations have worsened since the Indian Army base camp at Uri, Jammu and Kashmir, was attacked by Pakistani terrorists, killing 19 soldiers. After the terror attack, Prime Minister Modi decided to isolate Pakistan on all international forums and the Indian Army conducted a surgical strike on terror launchpads in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on September 29.
Since the surgical strikes were launched in PoK, cross-border infiltration attempts and firing incidents by Pakistan have increased sharply.
