An Indian Army porter was killed while another injured when the Pakistan Army violated ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Keran sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday. Pakistani troops also fired at the group of Indian Army porters working in the Keran sector.
"Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire along the LoC in Keran sector Saturday by resorting to unprovoked firing, resulting in death of one army porter and injuries to another," an army official was quoted as saying by PTI. He added that the deceased porter's body was recovered and handed over to his family for the last rites. The injured porter was taken to a medical facility.
The Indian army had, earlier in the day, shot dead a Pakistani intruder thereby thwarting an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch district of the state. The Indian army said that the foiled infiltration bid in Poonch on Sunday morning was the second biggest infiltration attempt thwarted in the last one week, the Indian Express reported.
The Sikh Battalion carried out an ambush in the morning after it received inputs from intelligence agencies about the presence of militants in the area. A search operation is presently underway in the district.
Defence Ministry spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Manish Mehta told IANS: "Alert troops of the Army noticed suspicious movement on the LoC in Krishna Ghati sector around 2.30 am. The intruder was killed in ambush. His identity is yet to be ascertained."
This comes after the Indian army killed six militants on Saturday as it foiled another major infiltration attempt in the Rampur sector of Uri in Jammu and Kashmir. On Friday, the Indian Army had shot dead two members of Pakistan's Border Action Team in Uri district.
