Despite incidents of stone-pelting in the Valley, the youth in Kashmir showed an "overwhelming response" to the ongoing recruitment process for the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Recruitment rallies were held in the Bandipora and Anantnag districts of the state where arpund 3,000 men and women lined up at the recruitment venue. Bandipora saw 1295 candidates participate on the first day of the rally, while 1674 candidates participated in the recruitment process held in Anantnag district.
"All the measures/methods involved in the recruitment process are technology driven with minimal human intervention. The Physical Tests are being conducted by using RFID chips with computerized readings/results. All the events involved in the Physical tests are also being video-graphed," a press release from the Jammu and Kashmir Police stated.
The press release added that the candidates who passed the physical test on Wednesday would be required to appear for a written examination for the final selection.
"The recruitment rally in Bandipora will continue tomorrow as well and for next three days in Anantnag," the press release further added.
Several incidents of stone-pelting at security forces have been reported in Jammu and Kashmir over the last few days.
Stone-pelters targeted the funeral of Lieutenant Ummer Fayaz, a 22-year-old soldier of the Indian Army whose bullet-riddled body was found in the Herman area of south Kashmir's Shopian district on Wednesday. Fayaz had gone home to attend a wdding ceremony. However, he was kidnapped by terrorists from the ceremony and later killed.
The Indian Army officer was killed by terrorists in an attempt to dissuade local residents from joining the security forces.
There were also reports of students of colleges and universities pelting stones at the security forces in several districts of the state.
